SIEB & MEYER further develops serial device

Now with NRTL approval and higher output current: SD2B plus can be used even more flexibly

Starting with the second quarter of 2020, SD2Bplus by SIEB & MEYER will also be available with NRTL approval and in a high-current version. The NRTL approval allows users to integrate the devices into systems for the US market without additional approval tests. A new high-current version is now additionally available. Without any changes in the construction volume, the version offers a 30% higher rated and peak current compared to the standard version.

"With the new high current model of SD2Bplus, we have reduced the supply voltage to 50 VDC, which allows the use of power semiconductors. As a result, we were able to increase the rated current", Torsten Blankenburg, Chief Technical Officer of SIEB & MEYER AG described. "The higher output current of 13 A further extends the field of application of the device". The regular SD2Bplus works with a compromise between maximum operating voltage and rated/peak current (80 VDC/10 A) in order to be able to serve as many applications as possible. With the high-current version, SIEB & MEYER is reacting to a concrete market need. A similar situation applies to the NRTL approval: It was requested by several European customers who sell their end products worldwide. The reason for this is that the US market in particular does not accept the CE certificate.

SDB plus can be used as a highly dynamic servo amplifier for the operation of rotary and linear low-voltage servo motors as well as for optimized operation of high-speed low-voltage synchronous and asynchronous motors.

In the high-speed range, SD2B plus as a frequency converter allows control with sensors based on TTL encoders. Thus, several high-speed motors can be operated with angular synchronism in via master/slave connection up to a speed of 120,000 rpm, which is useful in the field of optical systems, for example. The robust speed control also permits high mass inertia ratios between motor and tool of up to 1:100.

SD2B plus comes with an IP20 housing and is characterized by its compact design: Thanks to its height of only 25 mm, it requires very little installation space. It is equipped with the safety function STO and an internal logic voltage supply. In addition to two TTL encoder inputs and outputs, the user can choose from five digital inputs/outputs each as well as a USB interface for easy parameterization. The device offers a basis for a wide range of applications that can be adapted in terms of construction and performance.
