New Production Site at Lueneburg Harbor Begins Operations
SIEB & MEYER has begun operations at its new production facility located at Lueneburg harbor. From now on, assembly and final inspection of the multilevel drive controllers SD2M and SD4M will take place there. With this expansion, the company responds to the rising demand for frequency converters suited to challenging high-speed applications and creates additional capacity for further growth.
At the new production facility, the employees carry out all the assembly steps up to the final testing of the drive controllers. The production process first includes the pre-assembly of subcomponents, such as electrolytic capacitor boxes, fan units and connection areas, followed by the device assembly. Then, the device undergoes the high-voltage test and the insulation test at the pre-test station. The process concludes with a two-hour function test in a heating cabinet and a final device test.
The frequency converters of series SD2M and series SD4M are produced here. These devices are designed for stationary applications in switch cabinets and were specially developed for high-speed applications like turbo compressors, turbo blowers, ORC systems and flywheel energy storage units. "The demand for our multilevel drive controllers grows steadily," explained Torsten Blankenburg, CTO at SIEB & MEYER. “With the new production site, we gain flexibility to reliably meet the demand and also advance our long-term planning.”
Multilevel technology for excellent current quality
The series SD2M and SD4M are based on three-level technology, also known as multilevel technology. Compared to conventional two-level converters, these devices enable a significantly higher current quality. This, in turn, reduces motor losses and rotor heating while the overall efficiency of the drive system increases. Moreover, many high-speed applications can work without additional motor filters and chokes. As a result, users benefit from a simpler system design, reduced space requirements and less installation effort.
With switching frequencies up to 16 kHz by standard and up to 32 kHz in selected variants, the frequency converters of series SD2M and SD4M provide the conditions for energy-efficient operation even at very high speeds.
