New Ways for Communication with Multilevel Frequency Converter SD2M

Press releases

Support of Modbus RTU interfaces

The favored three-level frequency converter SD2M by SIEB & MEYER supports yet another interface now: Modbus RTU is an established communication protocol especially in the field of turbo compressors and turbo blowers. Combined with the existing interfaces RS232/485, CAN bus and EtherCAT numerous options are open to users.

This extension makes a simple integration of SD2M in machines with Modbus RTU (Remote Terminal Unit) possible. Manufacturers of compressors and blowers benefit because the effort required to integrate the device into an existing fieldbus structure is much reduced. Additional gateways or other converters are no longer necessary.

In the application field of turbo blowers and turbo compressors the three-level converter series SD2M offers also other significant advantages beside the interfaces: These become most apparent when considering the efficiency of the overall system (from mains supply to motor shaft) of such a machine. Particularly the dynamic and sensorless control technology as well as output stages specially designed for high-speed applications are key factors here. Compared to technologies based on standard converters, the series SD2M scores with distinct advantages in terms of overall efficiency, construction size, weight and costs for the respective overall system. In most cases expensive additional components are not required, for example motor LC filters or motor chokes.

SIEB & MEYER continuously develops the frequency converter SD2M further. Recently the development focused primarily on the expansion of the power range and hardware adaptations. Hence the Lueneburg based company has launched SD2M versions with DC supply and terminals for providing the DC link voltage.
