More Power in the Medium Performance Range

SD2M/SD4M series by SIEB & MEYER with new power class of 185 kW
This step can make a difference for many machine builders: SIEB & MEYER launches a new power class in both frequency converter series SD2M and SD4M. The new air-cooled variants for the power range 150..300 kW were specifically developed to close a gap in the existing product range – with clear focus on applications in the turbomachinery technology.
With the frequency converter series SD2M and SD4M, SIEB & MEYER already provides a finely graded performance range between 70..490 kW. The high-speed experts based in Lueneburg (Germany) now extend the portfolio with an air-cooled device variant of the 185 kW power class.
Until now, the air-cooled devices of series SD2M and SD4M covered a current range of 310 A@8 kHz to 480 A@8 kHz. With the new variant of 350 A@8 kHz, both series obtain an additional in-between model that reduces the gap on the current side. On paper, this may seem like a small addition but many plant engineers benefit in practice, especially when performance and installation space must be optimally matched.
"We listened to our customers," said Torsten Blankenburg, CTO at SIEB & MEYER. "The power range between 150 and 300 kW is crucial for many applications. Our new power class provides flexibility for engineering and unnecessary oversizing can be avoided."
High overall efficiency with three-level technology
The innovative three-level technology of the series SD2M and SD4M combined with device-dependent switching frequencies of up to 32 kHz ensures excellent current quality, which reduces motor losses and increases the overall efficiency accordingly. This prevents excessive rotor heating without expensive motor chokes or sine-wave filters. In addition, the three-level technology reduces the load on the motor insulation.
