SIEB & MEYER at the SPS IPC Drives Trade Fair
News from Lueneburg (Germany) about frequency converters and servo amplifiers
Over the past year SIEB & MEYER has further developed and enhanced their well-proven frequency converters and servo amplifiers. Visitors can see the devices for themselves at SPS IPC Drives held in Nuremberg from November 27th to 29th, 2018. The latest addition is a stand-alone version of the successful drive system SD2S that features a high protection class making usage outside a switch cabinet possible.
"We constantly adapt our solutions to the market requirements," says Torsten Blankenburg, CTO at SIEB & MEYER AG. "The stand-alone version of SD2S was also developed this way. With the device our customers can flexibly expand their systems and machines." The new device with protection class IP54 is based on the well-proven drive system SD2S by SIEB & MEYER that is especially developed for high-speed applications. In machine tools, for example internal grinding machines, the solution plays to its strength. But SD2S is also most suitable for applications such as turbo compressors and vacuum pumps.
Since SIEB & MEYER introduced the frequency converter SD2M with three-level technology a few years ago, the device has been writing a success story: The company won numerous new customers for series production, for example in the field of high-speed turbomachines such as turbo compressors, turbo blowers and turbo generators. Besides, the frequency converter SD2M is still the first choice for machine tool applications or test stations where it proves itself with maximum output at minimum required space, reduced system costs and high efficiency. SD2M comes with the innovative three-level technology designed for output powers up to 432 kVA and rotating field frequencies up to 2,000 Hz.
Recently, SIEB & MEYER has expanded the performance spectrum of customized solutions based on SD2M. Now, the company can implement customized devices with motor currents up to 650 A – either equipped with air cooling or with liquid cooling.
At the beginning of this year, SIEB & MEYER has added a PROFINET and an EtherCAT-master interface to the servo amplifier SD3. The option modules for the fieldbus interfaces CANopen and EtherCAT (CoE) are still available. With the additional interfaces new application possibilities open up, for example in the machine tool industry or the automotive industry.
The servo amplifier SD3 comes with an open architecture and power output stages up to 55 kVA. By means of the provided function libraries customers can program application solutions for the device themselves, e.g. in C/C++. Additionally, various software functions and an integrated web server are available. The support of an OPC UA-based communication provides the basis for Industry 4.0.
The sensorless safety functions of the SD2 drives introduced by SIEB & MEYER last year have been very well received by customers. The functions Safe Frequency Monitor (SFM) and Safe Limited Output Frequency (SLOF) were approved by TÜV-Nord according to EN 61508:2010. Both functions meet the requirements of safety integrity level SIL3. By means of the safety function SFM the operator can safely detect whether or not the speed of a sensorless spindle has dropped below a safe speed value after switch-off. The safety function SLOF makes sure that a critical speed is not exceeded. Both functions are based on the function Safe Torque Off (STO) that is integrated in all SD2 drive amplifiers as standard. The outcome is a functional and cost-effective solution.
