The feed-in converter aeocon enhances efficiency and economic viability of small wind turbines. Its control technology is suited to the application and operating conditions with pinpoint accuracy allowing a considerable increase in the output power. The device also pays off when employed with technologies for the use of other regenerative energy sources.
Principally the device developed by SIEB & MEYER AG (based in Lüneburg, Germany) is suitable for all applications featuring the conversion of generated current into grid-compatible voltage. This is also the case for small hydroelectric power plants or mini cogeneration (CHP) units. The latter are more and more used for partially covering the energy demand in single- and multi-family houses as well as in companies and in housing developments. If one wishes to supply energy from his own generator to a domestic grid and excess energy to the public low-voltage grid, he is in need of a grid-tie inverter.
Using aeocon is particularly beneficial when the generator supplies various performances, that means the unit is a speed variable systems that requires corresponding application prerequisites: a permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMG), a power range of 3 to approx. 15 kW and a voltage range between 40 and 340 V (AC), ideally the rated voltage is 300 V (AC). The aeocon is exactly adapted to the highly dynamic and irregular operating conditions of wind turbines and reaches therefore excellent control performances allowing operation at the optimum operating point over a wide range. This is also beneficial with respect to hydroelectric power plants or cogeneration (CHP) units. Small hydro power plants, for example, must cope with different flow conditions. Depending on the used turbine the flow conditions can be kept at a constant level similar to a wind turbine by adapting the speed of the turbine to changing water supply, different flow speeds or variable drop heights. Thus the optimum operating point also shifts with different water quantities for maximum power output.
The investment costs are also of considerable importance for the economic evaluation. aeocon provides all components required for the operation – rectifier, inverter incl. galvanic isolation and ballast circuit – structurally and functionally combined in one compact housing, which tightens up the purchase process as well as installation and setup of the device.
Besides the efficient control technology the user benefits from the long-time know-how of the SIEB & MEYER engineering, development platforms and a modern, flexible production. This combination provides the perfect environment for quick, customized solutions, which are suited exactly to the individual application requirements concerning the technical orientation and achieve the maximum output during operation.
